History of GAMSAT:

In response to a number of prominent thinkers and experts, there was a consensus that medicine would benefit from recruiting people from a varied background, both from an educational and life experience point of view . The concept of a shorter more focussed four to four and half year course was conceived . As a component in selecting the most appropriate people, GAMSAT ( Graduate Australian Medical School Admission Test ) was developed and produced in 1995 by four Australian medical schools ( now 11 ) as a tool in the candidate selection process . Subsequently it was brought into use by 10 British and Irish Universities. GAMSAT is a reasoning rather than knowledge-based test. GAMSAT is held only once a year in late March/early April (in Australia) and September (in The UK) . It is administered by Australian Council of Education Research (ACER)."
